Meet The Host

Rani Banik, M.D.

Dr. Rani (Rudrani) Banik is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained neuro-ophthalmologist with additional certification in integrative and functional medicine. She completed her B.A./M.D. at Brown University's prestigious eight-year Program in Liberal Medical Education, followed by an internship at Mount Sinai Medical Center, ophthalmology residency at UC Irvine, and a neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at Johns Hopkins' Wilmer Eye Institute.

After training, Dr. Banik held faculty positions at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and served as Program Director in Ophthalmology at Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center. She then joined the full-time faculty at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai, where she managed neuro-ophthalmology clinical trials. In 2017, Dr. Banik established her private practice located in Manhattan. She maintains an academic appointment as Associate Professor of Ophthalmology, where she teaches, supervises residents, and serves as Principal Investigator for clinical trials.

Dr. Banik specializes in integrative strategies for eye health, combining nutrition, botanicals, lifestyle modification, and supplements with traditional Western medical approaches. Her mission is to educate both healthcare professionals and the public about promoting vision health through nutrition and lifestyle choices. in 2023, Dr. Banik published her first book, Beyond Carrots - Best Foods For Eye Health A to Z , which has been a best-seller, followed by 2 companion cookbooks. In 2024, she launched her podcast called The Eye-Q Podcast™ to help educate the public and eye care professionals about preventative strategies for eye health.
